It’s no secret that I left New York in 2003 only to return from Denver in 2006. I did not move back here out of my love for black people. I did not move back here because I enjoy mass transit. I didn’t even move back here because I wanted to make $3 an hour less doing the same miserable job. This time without all those pesky bonuses and vacation days.
I moved back to New York for one reason: RaY Castaldo … I mean Hate the Radio.
RaY had a good job and was unwilling to relocate. Al was living in his parents basement, and changing jobs more often than I change my boxers. I’m not kidding. And I was confused and alone in Denver with seemingly nothing left to lose.
The prospect of moving back to New York was exciting. It meant doing the show together under one roof, and doing it live on ThereIsNoRadio. It also meant being around friends again. Having fun, stability, and doing something creative that we all enjoyed — and that’s what we did for six months.
And now it’s over … so I’m out and I’m gone.
I want to officially announce that August will be my last month in New York State. The money is saved, the Penske truck is reserved, and on August 31st I’ll be making the 1700 mile trek to Houston, Texas.
Why Texas?
Because it’s not Syracuse, New York. It’s also far away from this miserable fucking house, where no one likes each other. We just co-exist. I love big cities, and Houston is huge. It’s also warm all year around, and it gives me the opportunity to do something productive with my life again. Something fun. Something creative.
I’d give anything to have something like that again.
