April 1st: Gmail launches.

December 30th, 2004 by POMP

GmailI’m a fucking idiot. In my tired stupor, I went to log into Gmail, and saw an announcement that it launches April 1st. So in a pathetic attempt to scoop the other nerds still up at this hour, I quickly submitted the story to digg.com.

It turns out this was just Google’s way of celebrating their accomplishments in 2004. So to celebrate my stupidity, I offer you, the anonymous blog reader–twelve more Gmail accounts:

Green Lights at Airport

December 29th, 2004 by POMP

I live in Colorado, so this story is especially fucked up to me. And the fact the NORAD is in Colorado Springs, and this also happened in Cleveland makes it even creepier:

Associated Press

“Federal officials are investigating reports from two pilots who say bright lights were aimed from the ground into their cockpits as they headed into the Colorado Springs Airport.

Both planes landed without problems on Monday night.

Federal officials issued a warning this month that terrorists might try to down aircraft by shining powerful lasers into cockpits to blind pilots during landing approaches.

The pilots heading into Colorado Springs about 8-30 p-m Monday reported a bright, pulsating light shining into the cockpits. Colorado Springs police say the pilots described the lights as “green laser lights.”

F-B-I spokeswoman Monique Kelso says authorities haven’t determined what type of light was used, and F-B-I agents are conducting interviews.” [Link]

Which OS are You?

December 28th, 2004 by POMP

Internet quizzes are so fucking dumb, but for some reason I take every single one of them. Now you can too:

You are Debian Linux. People have difficulty getting to know you. Once you finally open your shell they're apt to love you.

Which OS are You?

My other personality is Windows 1.0. Apparantly, I’m a worthless piece of crap that should’ve never been born. But I’d have to say the same applies to commie Lunix users.

Gmail by Google

December 27th, 2004 by POMP

GmailI’m not very good at math, but if I’ve counted right, I have given away 58 Gmail invites in the last three days or so. I know some of you have been coming here just for that reason, and you were probably pissed that I posted a Firefox tip earlier, instead of some more geek bling.

So without further ado, I present you (thankless fuckers) with eight more Gmail accounts:

UPDATED: How To Speed Up Firefox

December 27th, 2004 by POMP

FirefoxHere’s something for broadband users that will really speed up Mozilla Firefox:

1.Type “about:config” into the address bar and hit return. Scroll down and look for the following entries:

network.http.max-connections network.http.max-connections-per-server network.http.max-persistent-connections-per-server network.http.pipelining network.http.proxy.pipelining network.http.pipelining.maxrequests

Normally the browser will make one request to a web page at a time. When you enable pipelining it will make several at once, which really speeds up page loading.

2. Alter the entries as follows:

Set “network.http.max-connections” to 64

Set “network.http.max-connections-per-server” to 21

Set “network.http.max-persistent-connections-per-server” to 8

Set “network.http.pipelining” to “true”

Set “network.http.proxy.pipelining” to “true”

Set “network.http.pipelining.maxrequests” to 100. This means it will make 100 requests at once.

3. Lastly right-click anywhere and select New-> Integer. Name it “nglayout.initialpaint.delay” and set its value to “0″. This value is the amount of time the browser waits before it acts on information it recieves.

If you’re using a broadband connection, pages will load MUCH faster now! If you’re a faygot on dialup, click here.
